Laptop Trade-In

Trade in a laptop, or sell it outright

We do not sell new equipment, so we cannot offer credit against one. What we do instead is buy your old laptop outright, so the money is yours to spend wherever you like.

The difference

Trade-in credit or money in your account

Both are reasonable options and which is better genuinely depends on the machine. Here is the honest comparison rather than the sales version.

A trade-in gives you credit

Manufacturer and retailer schemes take the old machine against the price of a new one from that same shop. Convenient if you were buying there anyway, and worth nothing if you were not.

We buy it outright

You get paid for the machine within three working days of it arriving and being checked, and the money is yours to do anything with, including buying a replacement somewhere cheaper. No voucher, no store credit, no tie to what we happen to stock.

Trade-in schemes are fussy

Most run on a fixed list of models in good condition, and reject anything faulty, cosmetically damaged or too old to be on the list. We look at all of it, including machines that will not turn on.

Fleets, not just single units

Retail schemes are built for one machine at a time. If you are retiring forty at once, that is a different job and it is the one we are set up for.

If a manufacturer scheme offers you more for a current model in good condition, take it. We would rather tell you that than win the job and leave you worse off. What affects the figure when you sell.

Anything else, call 020 3411 1951.

Do you do part-exchange against a new laptop?

No, and it is worth being straight about that. We do not sell new equipment, so there is nothing to exchange against. We buy your old machine outright and you spend the money wherever suits you — which is usually worth more than credit tied to one retailer.

Is trading in or selling worth more?

It depends on the machine and on the scheme. Trade-in offers are often generous on current, in-demand models in good condition, because the retailer is really discounting the new sale. They tend to be poor on anything older, faulty or off the approved list — which is exactly where selling outright does better. Get both numbers before you decide.

Will you take a laptop a trade-in scheme rejected?

Usually, yes. Rejections are normally about age, cosmetic condition or a model not being on the list, none of which rule a machine out for us. Broken and faulty machines are worth asking about too.

How do I get a figure?

Tell us the make, model, rough age and condition. We come back with a quote for what we can buy, itemised if there is more than one machine, and there is no obligation to accept it. We do not run an instant online calculator, because a number generated before anybody has seen the machine changes when it arrives, and that helps nobody.

See what it is worth outright

Make, model, rough age and condition is enough. We will come back with a free quote and you are free to decline it.
